The Best Places to Touch Grass on Campus

Slowly but surely, spring is returning. Get your nasal spray and Amazon brand allergy medication ready, because the worst time to be a Pennsylvanian has arrived. Is today going to be warm and sunny, or will it be snowing? Who knows! One thing I do know, is that with the better temperatures the grass is growing. After the weather this winter, everyone needs to go touch some. Please. I am begging you. I’m even providing a list for the best options, this is a tiny campus, you can do it.

5. Smith Lawn

Bottom of the list, unpopular opinion, I know. While it is large and luxurious on one half, the other is almost always dead because they will not stop putting up tents in the Same. Exact. Spot. It ruins the grass, the views, and the vibes. While it is spacious and you can avoid enemies, you run the risk of basking in the dirt. The largest downside by far is the lack of shade everywhere. That and the possibility of being clobbered by a frisbee.

4. Deg Lawn

Yes, this is a popular spot, but must I remind you of the construction? Deg Lawn alone is rather small. The grass is always nice and the breeze is always good, but the sounds of nature are drowned out by the clanging and banging of the extension that… I think they are building? They might just be hitting things, I don’t know. Good grass, bad atmosphere.

3. Practice Soccer Field

People rarely go past Sass dorms unless they play sports, but hear me out. When no sports are going on and the breeze is just right, it is so nice. It is quite the hike for some, but well worth it. While the grass is not pristine, it is quiet, perfect for relaxing and working or screaming really loudly to disrupt the peace. Bonus points for the amount of dandelions when they start coming back, very enriching.

2. Lawn in Front of Seibert

With a few trees and lots of grass, there are options for those who love basking in the sun or hiding in the shade. This lawn is especially great if you enjoy wildlife, because the squirrels that frequent this area are brave. They will get close enough to get a cute picture, but right before you take it, you will sneeze, and it will run. I told you to get your allergy gear ready.

Honorable Mention: Cemetery

Technically, this is part of campus, but this is more of a touch grass and continue on kind of place. While some go here for some quiet sitting, it is usually a place for walking. I don’t know, something about hanging out near dead people is unsettling or something. Bonus points for being a good sunset spot.

1. Courtyards of Shobert and March

It might be shocking that this is listed as the number one place on campus to touch grass, but I have a point. It is far for anyone who does not live there, but because of the small population crushing the grass, it is soft and comfortable. With a blanket and a nice spring breeze, you have the ideal study spot. Limited people and limited noise, what else could you want? Truly prime real estate.

So, if you need to touch grass after the long, hard winter, you have multiple options. There is absolutely no excuse for you to be the way you are. Grab that blanket in the back of your closet and get out there, champ!
