A Glimpse Into the Future of Film

By: Zach Slusser

Imagine for a moment that it is May 2035, and you walk into a movie theater. You are seeing Captain America 7. You could have seen Iron Man: Resurrection 2 or even the latest Venom movie, but Marvel Studios gave Chris Evans 35 million to be horrifically deaged in the latest prequel, which really caught your eye. The theater is a rare moment of serenity between the third cycle of government collapse and the latest virus to defrost from the Arctic. The concession stand beckons, and you pull out your AMC Super-Ultra Rewards App to show them your membership discounts. You’re excited. After three months of saving up points, you can finally afford $5 off on refreshments. The smell of theater popcorn dances its way up your nostrils. Ah, heaven in a thin paper bag. The cashier smiles at you as you hold your Apple Watch to the payment kiosk. Your total was $46 for a medium popcorn and a small drink. It’s expensive, but at least you can come back to the bar at the intermission after the first 3 hours to get absolutely plastered and forget about it. Maybe you’ll be able to save up more points for October when the latest Batman reboot debuts. You heard that Finn Wolfhard is playing a grittier, more brooding Bruce Wayne, and Twitter is loving it so far. Cinema is well and truly alive.
