My Queen, Ashley Tisdale
By: Maddie Fitzpatrick
The early 2000s was arguably the most iconic fashion era. These looks of the era were highlighted on red carpets and premieres. Many of these stars made deals with Kohls or Walmart, causing every pre-teen to plead with their mom for a cheetah print skirt and rhinestone T-shirt. I BEGGED my mom to buy me clothes from the Shake It Up Collection at Kohls. The line consisted of zebra leggings and a plaid vest so thankfully, she did not let me buy a single thing. Unfortunately, she did buy me a fedora, but we won’t be discussing that!
Iconic Red Carpet Looks:
Pictured is your majesty Ashley Tisdale at the 2005 premiere of Ice Princess. Tisdale is sporting a gold sequin skirt and matching flats paired with white and blue layered tops and a matching turquoise necklace. You may think this flamboyant look ends there but when it comes to Tisdale, there’s never enough layers! Tisdale added light wash jeans under her skirt, a draping shark’s tooth necklace, and a keyboard clutch to her premiere fit.
This next look is from the Premiere of The Princess Diaries 2 in 2004. Princess Tisdale stole the show at this red pink carpet. She is rocking dark bootcut jeans, paired with a matching belt with a gold heart. As the queen of layering, Tisdale began with a plain pink top and added an ivory spaghetti strap with pink sequins. To top this ensemble off she wrapped a pink feather boa around her neck and wore a Hello Kitty sleep mask as a crown (one she very much deserves). Our casual queen completed this look with comfy pink slippers, I mean who doesn’t want to feel cozy watching a movie?
Queen Tisdale stuck with her typical light wash boot cut jeans for the 2004 premiere of Monsters Inc On Ice. She remained true to her signature pink but toned it down with icy blues to match the theme. Her jeans are beneath a cool blue sparkling dress and an aluminum purse with matching heels. This look would not be complete without some pink sequins so she wrapped up her fit with a bolero t in her signature shade.
Featured next is Mean Girl Lindsay Lohan sporting a casual look at a 2002 red carpet. Lohan has a velvet green tracksuit topped with a cream knit scarf, the width of a dollar bill, and what looks like dollar store flip flops (an economically considerate icon). If nothing else, Lohan has taught us that fame does not limit our comfort.
Here we have Cinderella Cosplayer, Hillary Duff slaying at an E! Party in 2002. Duff arrived in those classic 2000s baggy jeans, covering up her brown cowgirl boots, complete with a detailed belt. She’s sporting a sheer purple top with floral embroidery which she layered with a purple fur coat. What season was she dressed for, you might ask? I’ll answer: All of them. She added a unique purse that is a vaguely pinkish-purple color with dangling sequins.
Our punk icon, Avril Lavigne embodies all of our childhood skater boy dreams. At the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards Lavigne appeared in her classic punk-skater chic. She’s wearing camouflage cargo pants that must’ve come from her father’s closet and a white tank allowing her black bra to show through (a game-changing detail). She wore multiple clunky bracelets and quite literally tied this look together with a striped tie (also likely from her father’s closet).
