Thnks fr th Mmrs

By: Nostalgia Lover

Since The Squirrel has been successfully wreaking havoc for a decade, I thought it would be appropriate to take a trip down memory lane. In conjunction with our eras theme, here are what I believe are the most important eras of The Squirrel!

Birth

In the wee years of 2014, a small group of young college students blessed the campus by publishing the first issue of The Squirrel. They were trailblazers, the bravest souls, and the founders of our cult. These articles are very Buzzfeed-core, but I can’t even lie if fifth-grade-me read these she would’ve eaten that shit up. Thank you to the OG editor-in-chief Jillian and the 2014 Squirrel members for your service.

Gilded Age

Throughout the pop culture boom of the late 2010s, The Squirrel started to find its voice. This era is full of narrative articles that articulate what it was like to be at SU in the time of mustaches and Vine (RIP Vine). It was also when our favorite campus celeb President Jonathan Green entered our midst. The Squirrels of the past got to him right out of the gate and we’ve been (lovingly) taunting him ever since :)

Business as Usual

At this time, The Squirrel spent their days finding the silliness in everyday SU life. Not much to report from this era. From research on the website there were a lot of comics published at this time!

Problematic

So…. Whoever came before this generation of Squirrels thought it would be interesting to write a lot of articles about controversial topics (See “The Rape Issue”... actually please don’t)! While these articles may have been hits when they were published, none of them aged well. Sorry.

Side Note: On behalf of our entire organization, I’m truly sorry that anyone thought this was a good idea. It was created in incredibly poor taste and while we can’t erase the mistakes we made, we’d like to put those decisions behind us with remorse and respect. The VIP Center is located on the lower level of the library with resources and staff available for questions and support.

Renaissance

In the year 2019, our wonderful Supreme Leader Sophia came into power. We miss you queen! She isn’t dead, she's just in Indiana (which might be worse…). After quarantine and the chaos that followed, The Squirrel was able to be reborn into the publication you know and love today!

Now that we are old enough to have our first sleepover, there’s no telling what kind of antics we’re going to get up to in the future. Expect nothing but the best from this new era. Happy birthday to us!
